El Amigo Mexicano in Schererville

I've been coming here for the past 3 years now. I was ecstatic when we moved 2 mins away. We're always greeted so nicely. I think I've only had a mess up one time, but I kindly let them know and they were quick to fix it. The lovely gentleman who always serves our table always makes our experience that much better. My mom is extremely picky when it comes to Mexican food, but she was pleased with the food here as well.

First time there...only place open in my area and really wanted Spanish food...service with a smile and food tasted good...the presentation was a bit sloppy on my tacos as if it was a rush job but overall I'd return.

HIGHLY SATISFIEDFirst time to visit... Very pleased... Open dining area... Very clean... The food was absolutely delicious. My wife ordered the taco salad with chicken, it was large she could not finish eating it all. I ordered one pork tamale, very delicious unique flavor I believe they add a little bit of clove. one steak taco with flour tortilla one pork taco with soft corn tortilla all a la carte... Both tacos filled with meat and toppings... Savory and delicious I will definitely revisit this restaurant.

Literally the best food, I come here at least twice a week

I have been eating at El Amigo since the 90s. It has always been pretty consistent. This weekend I stopped in for lunch and got the complimentary chips and salsa as well as ordered a steak torta. The torta came out quickly, hot, and tasted good. The prices are good also and are really hard to beat. The atmosphere is good and have eaten here during various times of day and have always enjoyed the service.

Good food, friendly employees The raspberry tea was really goodI ordered to food to go but my check was never brought to our table and I was never informed that my food had been waiting at the register.

El Amigo is my favorite Mexican restaurants. It's not a fancy place, they don't serve alcohol, but the food is the best in the area! Do yourself a favor, if you are doing carryout, phone ahead. Even if it's in the parking lot. Walk in's will sometimes be ignored.

I always find myself happy when I leave this place. The food is excellent and the people are so nice.

El Amigo is as usual delicious. Great for lunch or dinner. I ordered a steak burrito. Very yummy and beyond filling. Good location, easy to get to. The only thing their restaurant lacks is a womans touch. It could stand a good scrubbing.

Liked my soft tacos. Other food was OK for the responsible price. Food served on mismatch plates (One person got a plastic plate and I got real china and the Pepsi products served in a Coca Cola cup LOL.) The food came out warm but because the plates were cold the rice and beans got cold fast. I would recommend this place for lunch and a early quick dinner. The store is new so I hope they improve.

That's what I call Mexican food.

I have been going to El Amigo since they opened when i was a kid...we have dined at almost every Mexican restaurant in Lake County and El Amigo is our favorite!! It is consistently delicious and the service is always great! Glad they moved to a bigger location...it was time. We drive from Lowell to eat here...sooo...yeah. Highly recommend.

I've been going to El Amigo since early 2000's (when they were in the old location.) In my opinion the food was better back then. With that being said, my co-workers and I still order lunch from them. Today we ordered our regular order and when I went to pick up the food, I was told the prices have changed and our food was DOUBLE what it was just 2 weeks ago. It would have been nice for them to mention that over the phone when I called in the order to begin with. Pretty disappointed with my experience today!

We have been going to El Amigo since they first opened in the old spot. Their food is great, and the burritos are the BEST! We moved several years ago, but stop by every time we are in the area to eat, as well as bring food home. Still have to find a good burrito that compares! Have introduced friends to the place too, and they love the food.

Food is always great and service is wonderful

This restaurant was a great experience. The staff were super fast and also nice. Food tasted amazing. We recommend the stuffed pepper appetizer. Desserts at the counter were also delicious, and we got one for free!

Visiting the Chicago area from the Texas /Mexico border area. I wasn't expecting good Mexican food here but wow. This place was good! I had the gorditas (chili Verde and chicken). Excellent pico de Gallo also. My brother had the steak burrito and wow! It was loaded with good seasoned steak. Highly recommended!!

We went there to grab a couple of tacos just after one o'clock on a Friday night. We sat at a table for 10 minutes before anyone greeted us. When they did finally greet us they said carry outs only!! Although they're supposedly open till 2 o'clock p.m. there was at least a 1/2 full restaurant at the time when we visited. We will never go back horrible customer service and lack of consideration for others.

To know if a Mexican restaurant is any good you have to judge by their rice beans and salsa, they're food is amazing. This place is our favorite for authentic Mexican food. We love it they get 10☆ from me.

Been going here for over 20 years! It's by far the best place for authentic and consistently good Mexican food within 100 miles. No frills just good food every time. Love this place. The prices are reasonable as well.

First time visiting the new place. Used to visit the old place but felt the quality was going down. I do have to say they stepped up and delivered a quality meal from the new location. I will be back to visit them again.

Food was delicious. It helped,we were hungry. Had the grilled chicken dinner. My brother in law had the steak sopes. Everything was excellent. Service was great.

Reminds me of home made mexican food

THIS PLACE IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST! FOOD IS ALWAYS FRESH, AND SEASONED! ALL THE WORKERS ARE EXTREMELY NICE!

Everytime I visit there are no disappointments with the quality of the food and or no issues with the staff; professional and courteous.

The food and service at this family owned eating establishment was outstanding! We will most assuredly be back and be back soon. The food was hot, fresh and served quickly. They also followed all the "Corona rules" too. The wait servers speak both English and Spanish, a real plus! Can't wait to return. They even serve breakfast!
